2/25: paycheck

Tenure seems like an antiquated practice amid today's economic and employment tumult, and I certainly feel lucky to have a tenured job. But even tenured lines are not necessarily safe these days: I recently found out that a friend's position at another small college is being phased out, despite the fact that he has tenure and has been teaching there for over 20 years. It made me especially thankful for today's paycheck.

I'm up randomly in the middle of the night, unable to sleep. So one good thing: I can read a few of Rebecca's blog entries!

NJ's in the midst of a bizarre winter storm and school tomorrow hangs in the balance. Missing 6 hours of rehearsal would not be a good thing, but a snow day at home is hard not to treasure!

The wind is gutsy and gusty. It's created drifts in the middle of our street. Looks like peaks of meringue with little wisps curling over the piles, trailing off.

I'm able to observe all so clearly in the newly renovated home office John created for us. He generously gave me the desk cornered between 2 windows. With no time for us to hang curtains, I'm able to view Comstock unobstructed.

Oh, dear Rachel--Thanks for coming by! I hope you fared well enough in the snow storm, and I'm glad you had such a good (and warm) late-night nook in your office to view it from.
