3/30: dogwood day

When I left for school this morning the dogwoods weren't flowering. But we had a warm and sunny day, and by the time I was driving home a number of dogwoods--both on campus and along the road--had started to open up. The blossoms are pale yellow now, still curled with new-ness, and I'm going to enjoy watching them whiten and broaden out over the next two weeks.

I have a good thing for today and it happened before noon. After recognizing that I've been in a funk for several days I wrote 3 pages in my journal and then set myself into action, the obvious antidote.

I washed the window in my office and rehung the observer bird feeder on the outside. Now the problem. I have 2 of those feeders and I really enjoy them because birds actually do come up to them all day long and I get a close view. Somehow, however, I manage to lose the suction cups so I was only able to hang one of the feeders.

I called my local hardware store where I bought the feeder but they don't sell the replacement parts. So I called the manufacturer, Droll Yankees, and the woman in Connecticut said she would send me a set of 3 for free!

Next week I will have both feeders functioning, but in the meantime, my morale rose about 400 points and some of my faith in humanity just got restored! - Barbara

I'm glad your morning action was curative, Barbara! And it makes me happy that the company is sending you the bird-feeder replacements for free; it does feel nice when someone does something that they don't have to like that (I know, it's good for their business, but still they don't HAVE to, but they did, and that's what matters).

I had something similar happen recently with the clasp on my favorite school-bag. It broke, and I called the company (Tom Bihn) to buy a replacement clasp, but they just put one in the mail for free. It came last week, and it makes me like my bag even more.

In any case, enjoy the birds!
