Life in late capitalism can be vexing, alienating, fragmenting, and otherwise frustrating. There are many wonderful things in my life, but I'm more likely to talk about what's bad rather than what's good. I'm going to try to post one good thing here each day, and if you would join in by adding a good thing from your day in the comments, I'd love it--I'd absolutely love it. --RR

I get up early, before anyone else in my house. I like it. It's kinda my time. I take a big breathe before the day starts. It also means, that by default, I am the breakfast guy...I make coffee and breakfast every morning. My son is usually the next one up. He's an athlete, and is supposed to be consuming 6000 calories a day. What do you do when you scramble 8 eggs and your son asks you if there's any more? You show him the empty egg carton and he says, "Geeze Dad, you ought buy more eggs than that!"
I just scratch my head and look at the little dog that doesn't really like me but is waiting for me to drop some morsel...any morsel.
It's a good day.
Chris in our house is the one who gets up first. Sometimes I'm jealous of the quiet morning time he gets to spend--but I'm only jealous in the abstract, since my body seems to opt for sleep over early rising. And then I get the pleasure of being greeted by him and the cats when I do get out of bed.
