Life in late capitalism can be vexing, alienating, fragmenting, and otherwise frustrating. There are many wonderful things in my life, but I'm more likely to talk about what's bad rather than what's good. I'm going to try to post one good thing here each day, and if you would join in by adding a good thing from your day in the comments, I'd love it--I'd absolutely love it. --RR
7/16: squeezed in
This morning I woke up earlier than usual and so had a little extra time before I needed to head out for my round of errands. I used the time to finish My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier. I thought it was a really well-done novel, atmospheric and compelling. I looked forward to picking it up this whole week as I've been reading it. It was an extra pleasure to see how du Maurier employed, transformed--and sometimes inverted--elements which she used in Rebecca.
... Rebecca was my favorite novel while I was in high school, I was kind of infatuated by the characters and especially by the name R... now that you mentioned it I just might try to find another novel by the same author - if it is translated to Slovenian...
ReplyDeleteHello, Meri! I loved Rebecca, too, when I was in high school; I re-read it a few years ago, and it was fun to remember how I felt when I first read it....
