Life in late capitalism can be vexing, alienating, fragmenting, and otherwise frustrating. There are many wonderful things in my life, but I'm more likely to talk about what's bad rather than what's good. I'm going to try to post one good thing here each day, and if you would join in by adding a good thing from your day in the comments, I'd love it--I'd absolutely love it. --RR
8/10: more martial
I have a plan to finish reading a certain number of poems by Martial by the beginning of the semester. This afternoon as I translated the lights went out during a thunderstorm. I moved from my office to the main room since its large windows provided enough light to continue. While the rain came down, I read more than my daily allotment, which not only was fun but also lightens my assignments for the rest of this week and next.
I grew up in the Midwest. I miss those heavy Illinois summer downpours!
ReplyDeleteThe afternoon downpours are kind of amazing, and they're not something I grew up with, so they still take me by surprise. Our main room has such large windows that it's like watching a show during the storms.
