Life in late capitalism can be vexing, alienating, fragmenting, and otherwise frustrating. There are many wonderful things in my life, but I'm more likely to talk about what's bad rather than what's good. ...An Iliad by Alessandro Baricco (translated by Ann Goldstein). I'm so glad I pared down the selections my students are reading, giving them--and myself--the time and space to linger, think, and enjoy.
