Life in late capitalism can be vexing, alienating, fragmenting, and otherwise frustrating. There are many wonderful things in my life, but I'm more likely to talk about what's bad rather than what's good. I'm going to try to post one good thing here each day, and if you would join in by adding a good thing from your day in the comments, I'd love it--I'd absolutely love it. --RR
9/29: glowing
After I finished kayaking I joined Chris and our neighbor at the dock, where they had built a fire and were hanging out. As we talked it got darker and darker. At one point Chris walked away from the fire circle to look at something in the grass and then called us over: he had seen an insect glowing green and wanted to check it out. None of us had ever seen a bug like it before. It was an actual glowworm!
How wonderful! One of my favorite phrases in Dorothy Wordsworth's journals is "Glowworms abundant."
ReplyDeleteI only knew glowworms from books, and so I assumed they lived long ago and/or far away. It was wild to see them in the here & now. Thanks for sharing the Dorothy Wordsworth snippet, Giffen!
