Today I celebrated by:
...ordering a copy of Bruno Munari's Drawing the Sun, which I had first read about on Barbara's blog,
...making some sketchy, spirally suns of my own,
(and, of course)
...visiting the sunset.
Life in late capitalism can be vexing, alienating, fragmenting, and otherwise frustrating. There are many wonderful things in my life, but I'm more likely to talk about what's bad rather than what's good. I'm going to try to post one good thing here each day, and if you would join in by adding a good thing from your day in the comments, I'd love it--I'd absolutely love it. --RR

Dear Rebecca,
I feel just the same about solstice: In January, when the days are getting longer and the sunlight is getting stronger every day, there is already the promise of spring in the air, and it may be as cold as it can be, I have the feeling. "Spring is around the corner!" (Which isn't to say that I don't love the winter, the white hills, the crisp air, also).
Have a light-filled, joyful Christmas time!

Though there are lovely (and important) things about winter, it helps so much to know that the seasonal pendulum is in motion and that the sun is swinging back to longer days. I sigh a big sigh at solstice-time, and it allows me to better enjoy winter while it lasts.
