Life in late capitalism can be vexing, alienating, fragmenting, and otherwise frustrating. There are many wonderful things in my life, but I'm more likely to talk about what's bad rather than what's good. I'm going to try to post one good thing here each day, and if you would join in by adding a good thing from your day in the comments, I'd love it--I'd absolutely love it. --RR

I don't remember ever seeing an eagle in real life. Yesterday, however, I was thrilled to see a red-shouldered hawk resting on a power line as I drove by.
The eagles' migration route takes them through Arkansas each year, and we usually get a view of one or two of them. This particular sighting was incredible because the eagle was so close to the house and so low--it literally took our breath away. Since I didn't grow up here, I'm still not used to the annual sightings, and I'm glad for that: I like that doesn't feel "normal."'
We seem to have hawks aplenty here, but I can't tell the different kinds apart. I get nervous when I see them swoop to the ground because I think a mouse must be in danger...! But they are gorgeous, without a doubt.
